NaB protein knowledge page

About

Landing page for the proteins constituting the background sodium current (NaB).

This current was introduced by Luo and Rudy in order to make their model of the cardiomyocyte possess electroneutrality, by counterbalancing the extrusion of sodium form the cytosol through the NaK pump. In reality, this current appears to be made of contributions from the sodium leak channel - nonselective (NALCN), the hyperpolarization-activated cation channels (h) and voltage-gated sodium (NaV) channels, found from studies of the neuron.

Other name for this current: Na-leak

Subfamilies

The following list contains the known proteins which may form the NaB current.

To date, information on the voltage gated sodium channel involved in creating the NaV current were not found.
